Coming from humble beginnings, Bob and Marilyn spent their lives in love, travel and laughter. These high school sweethearts from Albany, Missouri, married after growing up together as a jock and a cheerleader. After high school, Bob went to college near Kansas City and Marilyn supported him on a secretary’s salary. Bob eventually became a football coach and the couple had their first baby by the time he graduated.
The couple moved back to Albany, as struggling new parents, and Bob coached there for several years and the couple had two more children. On a teacher/secretary salary, the couple still didn’t feel financially stable, so they went to Iowa when Bob was offered a new coaching job there. In Iowa, the had their youngest child and then stayed there for a little over 30 years. Despite their financial struggles, Marilyn always supported Bob and their children in football and track and two out of four of their children became State Champions.
During their ups and downs, they discovered their camping and biking vacations to be their escapes. Bob mentioned that some of their biggest adventures included trips to Colorado and a biking trip that took them up Copper Mountain over to Vail Pass. They also shared that they felt so lucky to be in their eighties and still be able to bike frequently, travel, and enjoy their grandchildren.
Bob and Marilyn were staying at Hermann Hill on their way to the Katy Trail to meet up with some friends on a biking adventure. Many of our summer guests enjoy renting bikes, or bringing their own to Hermann, and spending their days on the Katy Trail. Then many guests come back to our spa in the evening for our Katy Trail Biker’s Massage. For guests that prefer to stay in town instead of bike, our Signature 3-Mile Walk offers a subtle but great work out while enjoying the historic wine town of Hermann, Missouri.
