Jillsie’s The Office

Hermann’s newest bar is Jillsie’s ‘The Office’ on Schiller Street. The bar is actually still in a “soft opening” stage, according to owner Jill Steckelberg, but a grand opening weekend will be coming up soon. I was there on Saturday night, June 20th, and that was only the second night The Office has been open. The place was busy and full of people, so it seems like it’s off to a good start. Live music by The Bufftones filled the bar with energy, and the drinks were good. There’s weekly drink specials, too – Jill picks a Shot of the Week that’s just $1.50 and a Drink of the Week that’s $3.00.

The Barrel Bar

The historic Concert Hall building on 1st Street is home to the newly reopened Barrel Bar and Restaurant. One half of the building is a sit-down restaurant that serves up seafood and chicken dishes and all sorts of burgers and sandwiches. The Barrel also has very good pizza, which they will continue serving past kitchen hours as long as the bar is open. The bar side of the building features a long, full bar, and fills up with people on weekends. Go there if you’re looking for a few drinks, loud music and rowdy bartenders. One of the bar’s unique features is a huge mounted television screen that you can play Wii video games on (sometimes they have tournaments).

Trappers Grill

There’s a lot of good food to choose from at Trappers Grill on Market Street. It’s known for its steak but it also serves some great chicken and fish recipes, German food, burgers and sandwiches, pasta, pizza, soup and salads and a list of really good appetizers (my favorite are the crab cakes and toasted ravioli). Pair your meal with a glass of wine or beer from the bar. Towards the end of your meal your waitress will bring around a tray of delectable-looking desserts, including a large chocolate canoe. Trust me, you’ll want to bag up the rest of your entree and just take the whole tray from her.
True to its name, Trappers is made to look like a mountain lodge, with wood floors, rustic furnishings and stuffed wild game on the walls. It’s a spacious but cozy place that puts you in the mood to eat!WEBSITE:

Wings A Blazin

Wings A Blazin is the place to go for Hot Wings in Hermann! The place is owned by a professional pilot, so it has an airplane theme and real aircraft parts (doors, seats, side panels, etc.) hang on the walls. Wings A Blazin is a bar and grill, so it’s got a fun and relaxing atmosphere. It’s decorated in vibrant colors and it has sort of a beachy feel to it as well. The food is excellent! They’ve got several different sauce flavors to choose from, then you can pick from five levels of spiciness depending on how hot you want your Wings. Other chicken favorites are Chicken Lips (boneless wings) and Chicken Tenders. They’ve also got chicken wraps, burgers, pasta, salads and several side dishes to choose from. Try to go in on a weeknight because there’s great weeknight specials, like $2.00 margaritas and $0.25 Chicken Lips. There’s plenty of room to sit and relax, and you can watch sports or the news on the big flat screen TVs while you eat.
